Aside from advocating Jazz, I've come to realize if you want to have places for  jazz performers to play you need also to become a community activist.  So I've created this section on my website for items of interest that doesn't fall into the jazz category and maybe a few things just because I like them.  - Ron Gable

RON,
A young man had promised me his group for a performance at Mercy Sienna Gardens on Main Street for Sunday the 14th.  Now this is not going to happen.  I really stretched my neck out and told Mrs. Wheeler I would put together a group of some kind to go entertain her group.  These are the ones with Alzheimer's and many who are so sick and frail. Most of them have little or no close families that visit.  So they sit day after day alone.  Our entire jazz and blues and vocal community can help fix this for just one day and for just 1 hour.  I am putting out a call to all to please help us out that day.  We have to do the older Christmas songs so that their memory works with that.  It doesn't have to be flashy.
What I need are musicians and vocalists that want to give back.  Piano or keyboard, guitar, bass, horns of all kinds, drums, congas and any other instrument that makes noise are desperately needed.  I need to know by the 10th if you can make it.  I know the pay will be minimal as they have very little money. She only pays Rick 10.00 when he is there.
Gig particulars: Mercy Sienna Gardens 6105 N. Main St. Dayton, Ohio
Time: 2:00 until we finish at least 1 hour
Dress: Casual but nice. Please stay away from Bright red shirts. Those upset them. My suggestion is white or light   blue. That is the way some react because of this disease. Shoes and pants are optional . Please donate your time to this. The rewards you receive are better than anything you will ever receive in your life.
Please give me a call at 254-3270 or 475-4297. God will bless you. I will thank you. - Judy Evans

I am soliciting your participation in the planning and implementation of the 2009 Two Days in May Conference on Victim Assistance to be held in Dayton on May 7-8, 2009. The Mayor’s Welcome Reception will be held the evening of May 6. Two Days in May is sponsored by the Ohio Attorney General’s Office in a major city each year. Past conferences have been held in Cleveland, Akron, and Columbus.
Thus far, the City of Dayton, the Crowne Plaza, and the Dayton Convention and Visitors Bureau are committed to make this event a success for our city. It is anticipated to give the attendees a “Taste of Dayton,” and ensure that they see the best that Dayton has to offer. Your participation is valued and welcomed.
Please contact Leslie Barrow, Dayton Convention Center (333-4714), to become involved on the ground level.
