Editor Comments:

It's that time of year again for me; I'm up to my ears in grant writing so we can help keep some of our jazz events going.  I'm presently working on the 2010 Jazz Festival; it's a crazy business when you have May 29 and July 1 deadlines for an event that comes off on September 25, 2010.  (Click Here) to check our 2009 festival lineup.

On Friday, May 1, WDSJ-Smooth Jazz 106.5 ended its jazz format at 5PM and now I hear Clay Collins is retiring from Clear Channel Radio; all of which leaves us wondering about where to advertise on radio for our jazz festivals.  I also wonder about the overall lack of jazz coverage by our media.  I sometimes feel we are the only game in town.  I know that's not true and I'm thankful for any coverage we get from the local media but I do believe we may be the only group with active programs to help rebuild an audience for jazz.
Jazz Advocate is committed to four projects designed for this purpose and we are asking our readers to join with us by contributing to a member drive.  We figure if we can get one fourth of our 2,000 reader's to contribute at least $10 we can attain our $5,000.00 goal.  This in turn will go a long way to keep our projects going.  We understand these are small scope efforts that need to grow to become effective on a real scale so we continue grant writing and will expand our programs as we get the funding to do so.
