Appreciation Month - Spread the Word! |

In an effort to rebuild a jazz audience in Dayton, Jazz Advocate is offering a Tribute to Lady Day where we use a
combination of theater and jazz artists to present bits of narration on the
life of Billie Holliday intertwined with some of her more recognizable
music. We are presently looking for sponsors to enable us to proceed.
Our event sponsors will receive a good deal of press and recognition for
their contribution. If you can helps us present more of this special
jazz series to our community
please contact me. - Ron Gable

When I
first walked in, I hardly recognized the place. The lights were dimmed and
the room flickered with candlelight. There were intimate tables for two set
up all around the room, and the balcony above, was made over into a
secluded, romantic spot, lit with paper lanterns, tables just large enough
for private rendezvous'. Then Theresa Hunt started to sing.
Theresa's voice filled the room. The acoustics were so natural, a good
portion of the night she didn't even need her microphone. The trio that
accompanied her was incredibly talented, and they were the perfect
companions for Theresa for the evening.
The crowd was small, but they were all enraptured by Theresa's voice
and the setting. Everyone was so comfortable, like they had been coming
there for years. Bill as usual, contributed wonderful food, and everyone
had their favorites, and came back time and again for his gourmet treats.
Carolyn created a very popular wine bar, with good selections, which they
all seemed to enjoy.
On behalf of the neighborhood, I want to thank Al and Bob for creating
such a cozy atmosphere, Bill for the food, Carolyn for all of her work (she
did everything), Jeanne for taking charge of the refreshments, and Ron for
enabling us to enjoy Theresa's talent one more time.
All of the guests were encouraging Ron to do it again very soon.
Personally, I can't wait. The evening was truly magical. I hope you will
be able to share the experience with me, the next time. - Lisa |
